On Saturday, April 1, NATS is holding a season-opening hike of the 6km Ward's Ferry Trail. Meet at 10:00am at the Park and Ride on Highway 3A, just west of Government Road. All are welcome. Phone 354-4325 for more information, or email us.
Pictures of the trail can be viewed here.
New Trans-Canada Trail RouteThe West Kootenay Chair of Trails BC, and original founder of NATS, Sjeng Derkx, has been part of a proposal to connect the Trans-Canada Trail between Salmo and Cranbrook via Nelson, Balfour, Gray Creek, and Kimberley. This route would incorporate abandoned rail lines from Salmo to Nelson and from Kimberley to Cranbrook, as well as the Kootenay Lake Ferry and the Gray Creek Pass. More details are available in Trails BC's latest newsletter.
Nelson Hiking Trails MapThe second printing of NATS' free colour map of hiking trails in the Nelson area has recently been completed, with funding from the City of Nelson and the RDCK. Copies will soon be available locally, and NATS members can request by email to have a copy mailed to them. If you would like to become a member, please see the link below, then print and mail the form. Support is needed to maintain the Ward's Ferry Trail, to become stewards of the RDCK's BNSF Recreation Trail, and to provide legal access to the Pulpit Rock trail.
